Hello! Looking for the perfect therapist is hard....we know!

Below are bios for all of our therapists.

* A note about availability: All therapists are accepting clients however, schedules ebb and flow as people enter and exit therapy. *

My Story: Stephanie Snow LPC (She/Her)

stephanie snow

I am an optimist, always looking for another way to solve the problem and move forward in life despite the &^%*#!!. I'm a licensed therapist; I have been a therapist for years, am a supervisor and am the owner of this group practice.

Born in Europe, I grew up in Asia and the South and moved to Oregon years ago to attend the doctoral program at Pacific University in Clinical Psychology. I have an M.S. in Clinical Psychology and am licensed as an LPC. I found a fulfilling profession and now call this rainy city my hometown. You may have known me under my previous last name: Brown. I have been told I am compassionate, direct, honest, challenging and persistent. All of this is true: I don't believe in wasting your time or mine. I want to get to the heart of the matter with you.

While life can get difficult, sometimes a little help from a professional can make things better. I have always loved psychology and feel grateful to be able to work with inspiring people every day. I value honesty, trust, compassion and personal strength and I hope to use these characteristics and values to provide you with the tools you need in order to seize back your life.I practice psychodynamic therapy. I will want to get to know you and help you gain insight into who you are and how you relate to others. Our relationship and connection is very important to me!

Specialties & Interests: Older adolescents and adults, individuals and groups. I do not see couples. Complex trauma, emotional manipulation and personality disorders are my specialties however I have a lot of experience treating many mental health problems and crises. I have worked in my own office, a group practice, in an agency setting, in a hospital setting and in the community.

Ask questions; feel free to contact me. I look forward to meeting you. Since I am the owner of our group practice and a clinical supervisor, I am pretty busy. I also typically see clients on a long term basis so I am unable to take on clients right now. However, when I do, I will not be accepting any telehealth clients. I will want to meet you in person. Even if I might be a good fit for you, I encourage you to consider seeing one of our clinicians. We will be working together to help you.

My Story: Marissa Harper LPC (She/Her)

marissa harper

I grew up outside of Philadelphia and moved out to Portland to attend graduate school at Lewis & Clark College. I am so excited to have a home and community here!

I have a Bachelor's Degree of Music in Music Therapy from Elizabethtown College and a Master of Arts in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Music Therapist.

Are you someone who is ready to engage in therapy? I am! I want to work with someone who is introspective and ready to work to make changes in their life. We don't have to be similar and we don't have to have had the same experiences; it's ok if we are different because I believe we will still be able to build a good strong therapeutic relationship. I really enjoy creating a safe environment to help women get to know themselves by speaking up and sharing their story, really being heard and seen. I like working with people who are struggling with the 'bullshit of life' and are in the process of trying to figure themselves out. I want to help those who want to aim for the life they want and not the life that has been dictated for them. I’m a big fan of personal choice and I want to help you to feel empowered to make the changes you want in your life.

I believe that building a therapeutic relationship in a safe, trusting, and non-judgmental space is the key to healing. I work from a trauma-informed perspective and I see the therapeutic relationship as collaborative between the client and therapist. I resonate with a narrative, creative, somatic, and here-and-now approach to therapy. I believe that people create a story about themselves from past experiences and interactions…some of which have been challenging and painful. I believe that unhealthy thoughts and or someone's self-identity have stemmed from negative interactions or events that have shaped that narrative. Highlighting strengths and healthy coping skills that you already have will allow you to write a healthier life story.

Specialties: I have worked as a music therapist across various settings and age ranges including a residential center with medically fragile folks, acute psychiatric care and senior centers. I highly value working through music via music creation (singing, playing instruments, analyzing songs, songwriting, etc). Music is an incredibly healing tool and you do not have to be a musician yourself to benefit from music therapy; that’s where I am here to help! My music therapy background can be incorporated into our therapy if you like but it is not a requirement.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions; I look forward to working with you!

I prefer in person sessions but I can see you over telehealth as well. I see clients Monday -Friday. I work primarily in our Tigard office and am there Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I see clients over telehealth only on Wednesdays. I work in our Sellwood office Mondays.

I have limited space at this time and I am only taking new clients who want to meet with me weekly.

My Story: Amy 'Ames' Freer (They/Them)

ames freer

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lewis & Clark College and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Lewis & Clark's Graduate School of Education and Counseling. I am a professional counselor associate and art therapist associate under supervision.

I have spent the majority of my life in Oregon and the tall pines of the Pacific Northwest have always felt like home to me. In my free time, I like to binge TV shows, go hiking or paddle boarding with my partner, dabble in an artistic/creative hobby, lovingly annoy my cat or play board games with friends. I am nonbinary/queer and neurodivergent. People who know me well would describe me as creative, nerdy, compassionate, goofy and an inquisitive/deep thinker.

The primary focus of my training and practice is as an art therapist, and I am so excited to offer art therapy counseling services to anyone who wants a more experiential form of therapy! It is my role to provide you with clinically informed, supportive opportunities to reconnect to your creativity and develop new ways of relating to your struggles and creating meaning around your experiences. We can also engage in art processes that help foster transferable skills such as safely reconnecting to your body or emotions, managing distress or frustration, self-trust and compassion around “mistakes”, mental flexibility, cognitive skills, implementing boundaries, communicating needs and collaboration. Sessions include both talk therapy and the creation of art, and the amount of either depends on your unique needs…from session to session; I will always try to meet you where you’re at.

I use a strengths based, trauma informed lens that honors your unique experiences and perspective, supports your goals, and recognizes the ways in which you have resiliently adapted to protect yourself and get your needs met. Additionally, I am always considering how you may be uniquely impacted by systemic inequities, intergenerational trauma and both external and internalized forms of marginalization.

Special interests: LGBTQIA+ teens and adults, ADHD/Autistic adults, complicated grief and loss. complex trauma (attachment-related, childhood, intergenerational or systemic), relational struggles (boundaries, communication, attachment dynamics), identity, navigating disability/neurodivergence, stress and burnout, adjusting to difficult life transitions and existential struggles.

Our practice plans to offer art therapy groups and workshops in the future, stay tuned!

Please feel free to reach out and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have!

I am prioritizing those seeking in person sessions but I will see you over telehealth as well. I work with clients ages 15+  and adults. I work Monday, Wednesday & Thursdays in the Tigard office. I work over telehealth Tuesday & Fridays. I do not work in our Sellwood location.

My Story: Sam Wilmarth LPC (He/Him)

sam wilmarth

I was raised in Michigan, and moved out to Oregon to pursue graduate school. I stayed due to loving the weather, all of outdoor activities and the food! Specifically, I like the delicious Thai, Hawaiian, and Japanese food that you just can’t get in Michigan.

As for my hobbies and interests, I am a nerd and proud of it! I enjoy playing D&D, reading fantasy books, playing video games and watching anime. While I love relaxing and playing games, I balance it with my love of outdoor activities such as hiking and kayaking. I also have some history with performing arts, having played a low brass instrument throughout high school and college, as well as performing in a play or two. I enjoy getting to know my clients through their varied interests and hobbies, so I hope you let me know yours!

Like my hobbies and interests, my professional life has also evolved over time. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and with my Master of Arts in Applied Psychology from Pacific University here in Oregon. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Early in my schooling I identified I wanted to work with adolescents because of their vibrant personalities and the potential impact I might have helping them ensure a more positive future. I am happy to say I take great satisfaction working with teens. I also have experience working with adults as well. Additionally, through earning my title as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have gained a large amount of experience working with individuals who have ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, complex trauma, depression, and anxiety. I am always open to treating other difficulties, however I have had the most experience treating these mental health issues at this point in my career. I have found both personal satisfaction and success treating these concerns.

Continuing the theme of variation, I use many interventions in my practice. However, my primary method is utilizing emotion-focused interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as focusing on challenging self-defeating thoughts to give clients the confidence to implement healthy boundary-setting and confrontation skills. I have found many individuals suppress personal emotional reactions, and by helping these individuals identify how they can express their feelings in productive ways, they are able to navigate a life that is more true to themselves. Let’s work together to help you be more you.

I am looking forward to meeting you. Feel free to reach out and ask any questions you may have.

I see clients Tuesdays - Saturdays. I am able to see clients over telehealth, although I prefer in-person sessions because it allows us to cultivate a more personal therapeutic relationship. Tuesdays are the days I dedicate to Telehealth sessions only. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday I work in our Tigard office. I don't work Sundays or Mondays. I don't work in our Sellwood office.

My Story: Aubry Lope (She/Her)

aubry lope

I was born and raised in East Bay, California and attended college in California for my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminology. Though the golden state holds my heart, I traveled to Portland for the opportunity to spread my wings in the helping profession and earn a Master in Clinical Social Work. I graduated from Portland State University and have received my Master's of Social Work. I am a clinical social work associate (CSWA) under supervision.

In my formative years, I trained in classical ballet, cello, and in the visual arts. Intertwining creative and critical thinking is something I’m constantly striving for and this aligns with my life goal to never stop learning.

I value the following concepts and you will see them in my clinical practice. These include: a strength-based approach, harm reduction philosophy, trauma informed care, anti-oppressive practice, psychoeducation and the recovery oriented approach around instilling hope. Many of the individuals I’ve worked with have backgrounds where they have been repeatedly blamed, rejected, stigmatized, and profiled. In our work together I want to emphasize that recovery is not linear and the absence of all symptoms is not a universal reality. My commitment is to build rapport and trust with you and this idea is centered on breaking away from the me vs. you dynamic as we work to build a trusted therapeutic relationship.

I have experience working with children and younger and older adults with a range of developmental cognitive challenges and mental health conditions, including those with severe and persistent mental illness. I am particularly interested in working with adults that experience depression, anxiety, personality disorders and the relationship of substance misuse in families on healthy adult development. Since graduation, I developed my clinical skills working in a fast-paced community mental health nonprofit organization which provided me with a wealth of experience treating a variety of mental health issues and concerns.

I look forward to establishing trusted collaboration and always welcome further questions and feedback!

I work Tuesday in the Tigard office & Thursday in the Sellwood offices. I also and see clients over telehealth Monday and Wednesdays.

My Story: Sean Cohen (He/Him)

I moved to Oregon to be closer to my family. I like the natural landscape and the change of seasons; I really appreciate the rain and the greenery. In my free time, I enjoy drawing, hiking and cooking. In my previous life, I was a pastry chef so, sometimes I still make some of my favorite French pastries. Honestly, you should try Marjolaine pastry. It is delicious!

Have you been labeled or judged by others? Have you had to hide a part of your identity? Are you fearful of others' judgments of you? I know what it is like not to be seen as a whole person. It's frustrating and discouraging to be seen one dimensionally and not as a multifaceted human being. I myself identify as a gay man and I haven't always been open about this with everyone in my life. I am now though. As your therapist, I want to create a safe space; a safe space means a place where you do not have to worry about being judged as a label. Are you having issues in your relationship? Do you feel your partner does not see or hear you? Do you feel disconnected from your partner or others? I want to help you reconnect with each other.

I work with individuals struggling with depression, social rejection, anxiety, trauma, men's issues and difficulties in trusting others. I also work with couples who are struggling with co-parenting, finances, communication, lack of connection and intimacy. I practice a variety of different therapy styles including but not limited to: Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, CBT and the Gottman Method (couples).

I really enjoy hearing people's stories and how your story has impacted your life today. I like working with individuals and couples.

My education and training: I completed my undergraduate Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Pacific University. I graduated from Lewis & Clark's Graduate School of Education and Counseling with a Master's in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy. â€‹

I am a marriage and family therapist associate under supervision.

If you feel like we might be a good fit, please reach out to me. I look forward to meeting you!

My preference is to see you in person. I work in the Tigard office Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. I work in the Sellwood office Saturdays. I also see individual clients over telehealth as well. I see couples in person only. I don't work Tuesdays. I also run a Men's Group and a Couple's Communication Group. Both are weekly groups.

My Story: Donna Zucco (She/Her)

donna zucco

I am from Reno, Nevada and decided to come to Portland to attend graduate school at Lewis and Clark. After being here for a few years, I’ve decided Oregon feels like home! It’s exciting to finally find a community you feel a part of! In my free time, I love to read, spend time with my cats, paint, be in nature, and do yoga. I recently completed my 200-hour Yoga teacher training!

I received a Bachelor Degree in Psychology from University of Nevada Reno and a Master of Arts in Professional Mental Health Counseling with a Specialization in Addiction from Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. I hold a Certificate in Eating Disorders from Lewis and Clark College. I am a Professional Counselor Associate under supervision.

The therapeutic relationship can be so meaningful that it’s important to fit you with the right therapist. I hope to create a collaborative space where you feel brave, cared for, respected, and valued. I work from a holistic approach that is influenced by a person-centered approach, mindfulness, the mind body connection, and looking through a strengths-based lens. But what all that means is… I believe you are the expert of your own experience, and you are the only one who can write your story. I believe we should approach ourselves with openness, curiosity, and the idea that we are always growing while acknowledging sources of strength and resiliency.

Sometimes, we all need a little help when life gets difficult, including me! This is where I tell you, you are not alone in your journey and if you are looking for a sign, this is it. If you have been hesitant to reach out for support, I am here to provide that support, to acknowledge what you are coming in with, to give you tools, and to help guide you to whatever healing looks like for you.

Specialties: I am interested in working with individuals, adolescents and adults who struggle with persistent mental health such as eating disorders, substance use, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, and more. If you are looking for somatic work, I would love to incorporate yoga and meditation into our sessions.

I am looking forward to connecting with you and joining you on your new adventure!

I prefer in person sessions. I am working in the Sellwood office Tuesday - Friday. I see clients Mondays over telehealth. I see clients over telehealth as well. I do not work in our Tigard office.

My Story: Jeremy Steenstrup Balthazar (He/Him)

Jeremy Balthazar_016_WEB_edited.jpg

I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California and have lived in Portland since 2007. While I love the redwoods and ocean back home, I’m thankful that the trees and beaches here are never too far away. Outside of work, I try to take things easy and, as a therapist, I’ve been told that I’m pretty easy going. I enjoy books, writing, rain, coffee, concerts, ghost movies, exploring new places with my kid, hanging out with my cat, and keeping my plants alive. It’s also important to me to enjoy, and be okay with, doing things that I’m not particularly good at - right now that’s painting.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz. I am a Professional Counselor Associate under supervision. I have a lot of experience working in various settings in the mental health field including non-profit agencies, residential, community-based, and homeless services, and sub-acute care. This has given me the opportunity to work with many people from diverse backgrounds, each with their own life experiences, each facing their own challenges.

We all carry with us our experiences of hurt, doubt, uncertainty, and indecisiveness. We carry with us our relationships to ourselves, others, and the world that we live in, and our stories about those relationships. We may be carrying depression, anxiety, trauma, or other deeply personal issues. The weight of everything that we hold can feel overwhelming and we often feel that we’re holding it alone. I work with clients to better understand and process the patterns, connections, and tensions in their lives and in their stories. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental, trauma-informed space where paths to healing, growth, and resolution can be discovered.

I practice existential therapy which emphasizes meaning, relationships, autonomy, authenticity, agency, creativity, and connection. I draw from psychodynamic, person-centered, narrative, attachment, cognitive, polyvagal, and mindfulness approaches. I work in a collaborative way that recognizes you as an individual who is carrying your experiences, emotions, and anxieties into the therapy session, and who has the capacity for healing and change. As part of the therapy process, I wholeheartedly invite you to share dreams, artwork, writing, music, and any other meaningful endeavors. I also encourage space for levity - a bit of dark or absurd humor in therapy can be quite helpful.

My focus is on working with adults with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, and attachment issues. My experience also includes working with grief and loss, relationship problems, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, neurodivergence, sex addiction, substance addiction, and interpersonal difficulties.

I work in our Sellwood office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. Wednesday & Sunday I see clients over telehealth. I do not work at our Tigard location. I prefer to meet in person but will also have some availability for telehealth appointments.

My Story: Jessica Elfin LPC (She/Her)

Jessica Elfin__005abc_WEB (1).jpg

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Mary’s College of California and a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Gonzaga University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oregon. As a mental health counselor, it is my intention to facilitate an environment in which personal growth, healing, and insight can flourish. I am primarily guided by the tenets of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a therapeutic framework that empowers individuals to change their relationship with their thoughts and past experiences in order to lead a more meaningful life. I also incorporate the use of humor, mindfulness, and person-centered approaches in my practice.

My background working in a wide variety of therapeutic settings lends to my belief that each individual is the expert of their own life and that all people inherently possess the tools to foster a meaningful and valuable life. As a therapist, it is my job to help you access and appreciate your innate gifts.

Taking the first steps to begin your wellness journey can feel scary, vulnerable, and unknown. The act of initiating your health journey is a testament to the courage you possess to confront the painful parts of life and blaze a new trail. You deserve to live the meaningful, valuable, and fulfilling life you desire.

I am affirming of individuals of all backgrounds, races, genders, sexual-orientations, and differing abilities. Savren_007_WEB (2).jpg

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Integrative Studio Practice from Indiana University Indianapolis and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. I am a Professional Counselor Associate and Provisional Art Therapist under supervision.
During my graduate education, I gained experience working with children and adolescents that experienced social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. Additionally, I completed my clinical internship at an adult inpatient psychiatry unit. I have experience working with people of many ages and backgrounds.
After growing up just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana, a few years ago, I moved to Oregon . I now happily call Oregon my home! When I am not providing therapy services, I like to rock climb, make art, see concerts, bake, cook, go camping with my partner, snuggle with my cats, and play relaxing video games. I am a part of the LGBTQ+ community and am neurodivergent.
If you are looking for a form of therapy that allows you to creatively express yourself, my art therapy counseling services may be a good fit for you. I also offer talk therapy. Alternatively, I am happy to slowly introduce art making to our sessions if you are curious about art therapy! We can collaborate to figure out what works best for you.
I bring a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to therapy. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the important foundation for the work you will do in therapy. My lens is primarily influenced by a person-centered approach with the addition of dialectical behavior therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and parts work.
Areas of interest: anxiety, depression, OCD, neurodivergence, LGBTQIA+, psychosis, identity related struggles, self-esteem/confidence, trauma, personality disorders, and adjusting to life transitions

My Story: Lesley Nelson  (She/Her)

Leslie_009_WEB (2).jpg

I am originally from Austin, Texas and I moved to Portland in 2008 because ‘I just had a hunch that I’d love it here and I was right!’ I have a Master of Arts in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark's Graduate School of Education and Counseling and I am a Professional Counselor Associate under supervision. In my spare time I enjoy playing tennis, running in Forest Park, writing, laying in the grass with friends and their dogs, and finding the perfect Sunday morning coffee and pastry spot.

I enjoy working with adults and teens (15 and up) who are experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, chronic pain, and workplace, family, or other relationship issues. I believe that one of the toughest parts of being a human is that we have no point of comparison. We live only one life, from the inside out, with no counterfactuals and no second drafts. We can’t know what might have emerged had we turned left instead of right, spoken up instead of stayed silent, or become someone slightly—or entirely—different. Therapy, at its best, invites us into imaginative spaces where those unlived lives can be gently examined. In the presence of a compassionate guide, we may find just enough distance from our well-worn narratives to see them differently…to loosen their hold, to trace the outlines of other possibilities, and to remember that even now, change is possible.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic traditions. I often incorporate tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and mindfulness-based practices to support clients in managing anxiety, OCD, and intrusive thoughts. At the same time, I value depth-oriented work—exploring dreams, unconscious patterns, and shadow material—as a way of accessing insight and promoting meaningful, lasting change. I believe that both structure and self-exploration are essential in therapy, and I tailor my work to each client’s needs, values, and
goals.

I see clients in our Sellwood office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays and in our Tigard office on Wednesdays. I am available via telehealth on Thursdays.
I look forward to meeting you!
